Go Norma! It has been a week now since physical, occupational and speech therapy were started. Norma has made progress in all of those areas. She even has home work in speech, to practice words like Okay, Uh Huh. She has a piece of paper with her list to work on. Actually, you can talk to her on the phone now. She can respond with words/sounds rather than just the head shaking, too cool!
So, this evening was kind of like a girl's pajama party (sorry Paul). There was laughing and giggling. Janet, Susan, myself and Paul were there. Janet gave Norma a hair cut, it is short, maybe an inch in length. It looks so cute on her. It should be easy to take care of as well. I repainted and clipped her nails (she even let me paint her right hand). It was a fun hour or so.

Chris is in town, he got here on Tuesday. I am sure Norma is thrilled to have both of the boys here, at least from the looks on her face she appears to be.
The family met with all of the therapists and doctor today. We were encouraged to attend her therapy sessions and give her as much stimulation as we can. She will most likely be on the 4th floor rehab for 4-6 weeks.

Kevin & Chris I am going away for a week, so get some info on this blog while I am gone.

Paul, Janet & Susan it was soooooo good to see all of you this evening.

  2. It has been great to be able to see Mom for the past couple days! It was tough being stuck in Seattle. It is impressive and encouraging to see the strides she has made between yesterday and today. She seems to be in great spirits and is ready and willing to do the work that rehab will require.

    Love,
    Chris

  17. HI Everyone! Paul and I visited Norma on the weekend and she was doing so well! Her spirits were high and her voice was strong. She said several new words that we had not heard from her and boy she sounded wonderful. I think the magnetic board is great and she wrote out some words for us on a different board. Then Paul handed her a round little tin that she has there and she spelled out a word for us. Guess what that word was..."JOY."
That's our Norma. I can't be sure about everything, but it sure seems to me that Norma is getting very good care. Someone at her OT or PT made her small cards with phrases on them that are special only to Norma. They laminated the phrases and then glued magnets on the back. Now she can make her own sentences with words that have meaning to her. I laughed when I saw one that said, "I'm gonna' kick ass." (At least I think that's what it said.) I am curious to know more about Jim, Chris and Kevin. How are all three of you doing? Is there something that we can be doing for you? I would like for you to email me please and tell me what the three of you need from those around you who love you and Norma. (madamewilson@hotmail.com) For the next week and a half I told Norma that Paul and I would not be able to come as much as we are putting home and yard together for a big party for my Mom's 90th birthday. After the party we'll be back on track. My mom has known Norma for about 10 years and she loves her too. Okay, bye for now everyone. Janet
