Tuesday, July 21

Well. I am back from the Rez (Pine Ridge, S. Dak) I had a very good time, not sure what went on with Norma, no blog entries (Hey Kev, what's up??)
Anyways, was so excited to see Norma. She can talk so much better than when I saw her on the 9th. Lots of new words and good communication.

She can make some deliberate movement in her right leg. For her physical therapy, she has a brace in her right shoe to help with the movement.

Jim said she can sing, as that function is on the right side of the brain, not the left. So, if you have any nursery rhymes on tape or cd she can use them to sing along.

I took my camera this evening to take a picture of her new hair cut, but the feeding tube is still connected. They are no longer feeding her with it and it should be removed in the next day or two. I will take a picture as soon as the tube is removed. (Janet you did a great job on her hair).

Karen & Richard(?) the flowers you brought are gorgeous.
Keep the cards and visits coming. Please make sure to sign her guest book.

I forgot to mention that I took my laptop so that Norma could read the comments on the Blog. She enjoyed them very much. :)

  1. Norma is doing so much better. In fact when I came to see her last night, she said she was doing "better." Thanks for the information about the singing, Karen, this is wonderful! The brain, right and left, are truly amazing, and the brain redevelops, too, which is remarkable. Norma is saying many words, too. Keep praying for her everybody.

  2. Welcome back, Karen and thanks for this update. It is so wonderful to see the progress you are making every day, Norma. Jim told me that you were singing an Elvis tune and I got a kick out of that. We are looking forward to seeing you next week. In the meantime, our thoughts and prayers for your full recovery will continue. We love you.

  3. Hi, Norma!
I just received an e-invite to Jim Schulz' 60.5 B'day party on Aug. 22. SO: I've decided to fly in for that weekend, rather than wait til Labor Day or Thanksgiving weekends. I haven't flown since Labor Day 1983, so any advice/tips that anyone (Jim??) can offer me would be SO WELCOME! Meanwhile, I can't wait to see you, Norm-ee!!! I'll probably catch a flight out of Tampa on Thurs. eve., and return to Tampa Bay Mon. or Tues. p.m. or thereafter
...Woo-hoo!!! You get the bean dip, I'll bring The Stooges!!! ;D
    XOXOXO I love you,
    Suz-ee
