Friday, 6/26

My Mom's hospital room is turning into a mini-botanical garden, as evidenced by above right pick. The quilt was kindly sent by the Colletes.

Me and my dad visited my mom today in the late afternoon. She was pretty sleepy the entire time we were there. However, we were bile to get a few laughs and smiles out of her when she wasn't dozed off. She is certainly improving from day to day. Her emotional recovery this past week is very encouraging.

I want to say thanks for all the nice flowers that you have sent Norma. The room smells so nice. Norma gets a big smile on her face when she looks at the flowers. I also want to say thanks to everyone for sending all your prayers for Norma's recovery.

Norma and I met with the social worker (Brenda) at the hospital today. It looks like on Monday she could begin the physical therapy. We are hoping that Norma can do the physical therapy in the hospital. It is located on the 4th floor. It is a 3 hour a day therapy and would last for approximately 3 weeks. The Doctors want to make sure that the patients are able to handle that amount of daily therapy. She will be meeting with one of the doctors tommorrow. Brenda said that Norma would be a good candidate because she is young and in good physical shape. I was given a list of skilled nursing facilities in the area as a back-up plan.

  4. Paul and I went to see Norma yesterday around 3:00 in the afternoon. While there we met a friend of Norma's, Todd. Very nice man. He sat next to Norma while she closed her eyes. Very dear. But, then Norma was extremely alert and she had something to say to me. I asked her if she thought I could figure out what she wanted to say and she nodded "yes." I started guessing at different areas such as Jim or Kevin or work. Yes work! But which "work?" I started with Associates for Living Well. Nope that's not it. How about any of the people at my agency? Nope. Tom's agency? (Tom is my husband and Norma used to work there.) Yes! That is it! I started naming people's names. Carol Lynne? "No" Dorina? "No." Mary?"No." Wanda? "Yes" she nodded and she made a great sound and she smiled a huge smile. Wanda's party? Norma nodded vigorously!!!! I told her that the party was on and that we are working really hard to put yard and house together to celebrate Wanda's 90th birthday on August 1st. I told her that 8 weeks from now if she was able, we would get her there. She smiled. Just like Norma to be thinking of my Mom. My Mom loves Norma (they have worked in the same building for quite a few years. My Mom asks about Norma every day and I give her a report that makes her smile too! We can't visit Norma today but Paul and I will visit Norma on Monday evening after work. Bye for now, Janet
